The Blind Girl's Guide to Sight

"Lower your eyes." 𝘖𝘣𝘦𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘯.

"Swallow your cries." 𝘈𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯.

"Believe their lies." 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘯

By sixteen, Noor could no longer tell where God ended and her father began.

She knew the rules. Their lies. Knew them like the back of her hand. She knew what made the perfect daughter, the perfect wife, the perfect woman to be passed from one household to another and call it marriage.

And she obeyed.

What else was she supposed to do?

But by sixteen, Noor also knew how her story would not end.

Not as the mother, who wept for her children but never stood between them and their suffering. Not as the sister, who was expected to clean after a brother she did not create. And certainly not as another woman whose worth could be measured by how much of herself she could give away.

Noor wanted something different.

And so she did exactly what was required.

She rebelled.

But rebellion has a funny way of unravelling more than just rules. The lines began to blur. The lies began to crack. And soon, the beliefs she'd spent a lifetime memorising no longer fit together the way they once had.

For the first time, Noor found herself back at the beginning.

With a bleeding heart, aching soul and no sight.

Though, perhaps, she'd been blind from the start.
