The first thing I learned about Arcadia Hills was that you should always be aware of what's around you. The second thing I learned is that some secrets are worth killing for. The third thing I learned was that those closest to you can be the darkest. When her uncle calls her asking for her help investigating a string of gruesome murders in Arcadia Hills, Katherine Davis doesn't think twice before packing her bags. She came here to catch a killer they call The Reaper. Instead, she walked into a town where everyone smiles, but most are hiding dark secrets. To make matters worse, she is forced to work with the biggest asshole on the planet, Detective Blaine Bennett. He's arrogant, infuriating, and somehow knows exactly how to get under her skin. They clash over every lead, every theory, and every decision. The last thing Katherine expected was for those arguments to turn into lingering stares, stolen glances, and feelings neither of them can explain. But Blaine isn't the only man who's been paying attention to her. Reaper has taken notice of her. At first, Katherine thought the clues he left behind were part of his twisted games. But when those clues start to feel like gifts, she realizes that this has become something much more. An obsession. As Katherine and Blaine grow closer, Reaper turns his attention toward Blaine. Now his threats have become more personal, and Katherine knows she can't let Blaine get hurt because of her. She's trapped in a town full of secrets, surrounded by a darkness she can't escape. She thinks back to the warning the cashier gave her. Be careful who you trust. She's now starting to understands what he meant.

Valeria didn't rush. She never did. Inez was pinned beneath her, wrist locked overhead, the hold precise and impersonal. Not pain. Control. Inez scoffed anyway. "That's it?" she sneered. "I've had tutors scarier than you." Valeria said nothing. The silence pressed in. "You don't scare me," Inez added, louder. Brattier. "You just-" "Enough." One word. Flat. Final. Valeria lifted Inez's chin with two fingers, detached as a correction. "Look at me," she said coolly. "If you're going to embarrass yourself, do it properly." Inez laughed, brittle. "You think this makes you powerful?" "I don't think," Valeria replied. "I decide." Her gaze never wavered. "You provoke because it's the last control you have." "I don't belong to you," Inez snapped. Valeria leaned in, voice razor-thin. "You are my wife. You belong to consequences." She released her grip. "Say it." "No." Valeria waited. The quiet broke Inez, she hated being ignored. "...I'll behave, I'll be a good girl" Inez muttered. "Specify." Inez swallowed hard. "...I'll be your good girl" Valeria stepped back, already distant. "Good," she said. "Remember why." #1 older women-13th February (FAST PACE BOOK)
