As they fight to protect the zoo, Psycho Green awakes from a decades-long stasis since 1969. Lurking in the shadows, he steals the ancient Galaxy Book and uses its dark magic to resurrect the legendary warlord Scorpius into a brutal new body: The Megabeast Hunter. Psycho Green then abducts Sterling's survivalist son, Van, forcefully binding three corrupted beast spirits into him to create a ruthless, brainwashed enforcer: The Apex Ranger.The Vanguard and The MastermindLeo successfully shatters Van's mind control by appealing to their childhood bond, and Van defects to join the Rangers, unlocking his high-octane Apex Matrix Battalizer vehicle armor to permanently destroy Scorpius. However, a much darker threat emerges from a rift of toxic water: Lord Vrak-Xandred (a terrifying fusion of Vrak and Master Xandred). Vrak-Xandred ruthlessly vaporizes Psycho Green and takes control of the invasion, using dark Sanzu Matrix Cards to grow his Nighlok-Mutant monsters to giant sizes.
