The Guardian

Seventeen-year-old Azmura Nyurími has spent his entire life preparing to inherit a duty older than history itself.
As the latest Guardian in an ancient bloodline, Azmura is responsible for protecting the Great Border-the invisible barrier separating the Human World from the Fae Realm. Every night, he walks the entirety of the Prime Meridian and Equator, sealing the boundary with the Guardian's Staff and the Song of the Great Border. The next night, he must do the same in the Fae Realm. Each journey takes exactly three hours. No one knows why. No one knows how. It is simply the duty of every Guardian.
For years, Azmura has lived according to the rules. His future has already been decided for him, his responsibilities outweighing every personal desire. Isolated from other teenagers and raised beneath the watchful eye of his strict mother, he has never been allowed to choose the life he wants. Worse still, everyone expects him to become the next matriarch of the Guardian line, while he carries a secret that could change everything: he doesn't feel like a girl at all.
Then he meets a group of human teenagers who treat him like a person instead of a symbol. For the first time, Azmura experiences friendship, belonging, and the possibility of a future beyond duty. Among them is Amari, a boy who makes him feel understood in a way no one ever has before.
But while Azmura struggles to balance two worlds, a far greater threat is growing in the shadows. Bonsam, King of the Umbrin, has discovered weaknesses within the Great Border and intends to tear it apart. As ancient secrets surface and the divide between worlds begins to weaken, Azmura finds himself caught between the expectations of the past and the life he wants for himself.
With both worlds hanging in the balance, Azmura must decide who he truly is-and whether protecting everyone else is worth losing himself.
