Clara remembers leaving the pub. She remembers footsteps behind her.
Then darkness.
When she wakes, she's bound in the back of a moving car, driven through empty country roads by a man with gentle manners and an impeccable voice. He introduces himself as Theodore Pembroke.

Theodore never shouts. He never threatens. He apologizes when he frightens her. He makes her tea, cooks her meals, and tells her she has nothing to fear.
