Victoria was a sweet girl growing up. But that innocence was slowly stripped away but one of the people she was supposed to trust the most. Her father. When she was a teen, she had to protect her sister, Valarie, from her father's treatment. But when she meets Joel, things began taking a turn for the worst, and one day, Victoria and her family leave Texas behind.

Now, over twenty years passed since Joel and Victoria last spoke. The sweet girl he knew grew up to become cold, indifferent, and a smuggler. A decently known one, and when her and Joel cross path's again, the two butt heads on their trip to bring Ellie to the fireflies. And when they find out they knew each other, maybe things will change.
