"you need a name, so how about thorn?"

he blinked, momentarily thrown off. his lips parted in disbelief. "what?"

the boy nodded, his expression serious. "I got attacked by a bird-shaped cog when I first got here, so I named myself bird. she has a lighter, so she calls herself fire." he pointed to the girl, "and you're embedded by thorns, so we can call you thorn. get it?"

for a long moment, he could only stare at bird, his mind too overloaded with confusion, pain, and the overwhelming need to survive to process the absurdity of this. his eyes flared with incredulity. he could barely breathe, and here this guy was, casually suggesting names like this was a game.

"...I'm poisoned, and you're giving me a name?"
