I will be honest here: I struggle with writing fiction. As vivid as my imagination is, I still have a hard time making things up. It could be that this is just not my gift or life is much more entertaining (and scarier) than any fiction I could imagine. Nonetheless, the problem persists. There was a time when I wrote a short story, just under 300 words, for a local project titled Pixie Drops. It did not get accepted but I bought a couple of first volumes and read what others were writing - and how. Next volume, I tried again, and, much to my surprise, it made it! So I kept writing short, tiny stories and submitting them to the project. Some made it, others did not. I kept the manuscripts for all of them because, well, they are mine, and who knows when a short story comes in handy... Here are the ones I have written so far. I will add more if/when I write them. "Stop it, Dax." I wouldn't meet his eyes, I couldn't. His hot breath trailed up my neck, his soft lips ghosting over the exposed flesh. He chuckled when my back arched involuntarily, my cheeks flaring hot and pink. "It's Officer Rivera, to you." His deep voice rasped quietly in my ear. "Besides, you don't want me to stop, Princesa." "If you don't stop, I'll-" "You'll what?" He interrupted, smirking against my jawline. "Call the police?" Jane Kingsley is a Veterinary Medicine major at the University of California-Davis.
