Shadow's Vigil

To the rest of Konoha, the Nara shadows are just ink on the ground. But to Shikamaru, they are alive. They are a fluid, sentient extension of an ancient wood god-and lately, they've been whispering that the Leaf Village is rotting from the inside out.

Shikamaru's lazy, cloud-watching days vanish the moment he finds a feral, white-haired orphan hiding in his clan's sacred woods. She carries the scent of a long-lost wolf lineage and a terrifying secret: children are disappearing from her orphanage, and her name is next on the ledger.

Realizing the village leaders can't be trusted, a young Shikamaru makes a silent vow to protect her at all costs. He drops the slacker routine, forcing himself to master his mother's brutal hand-to-hand brawling style alongside his eerie shadows. If the system is rigged, he will break it before he even graduates the Academy.
