It's September, the month every student experiencing Kindergarten through 12th grade dreads. But fortunately for Melanie Martinez, it's her last year of High School, and she can't help but pray for it to end in the blink of an eye. She has been the target of bullying ever since transferring to Sleepaway High School. It seems that every insecure fucker decided to pick on her the moment she stepped in with a huge tooth gap, split-dyed hair, and a shy smile that just screamed she wanted to be friends.
Melanie barely survived freshman year, not to mention that she couldn't even tell her own family about her pain because they couldn't care less. She felt horribly alone until...she met her best friend, Angelita Harkov, near the end of freshman year. The young woman was the only reason Melanie was able to pull through and make it to next year without "mysteriously" going missing and being found dead.
With her best friend by her side, she continued forward. The bullying didn't stop, but every year, she found a new friend. And before she knew it, she went from having one friend in 9th grade to three by 12th grade. Melanie finally found the trustworthy friend group she saw in every sitcom her knocked-out parents had left on the TV, and she could talk about her feelings without fear of judgment. And as she begins senior year, graduating and leaving the forsaken hell wasn't her only prayer anymore; she prayed that no matter what happened, she and her friends would stick together like glue.
But everything changes the moment Billie O'Connell crashes her murdered-out Hellcat into Melanie's life and ditches the bully group for her.
