In 1870, Ada Miller and her family arrive in Kansas as Exodusters-Black pioneers seeking refuge from the post-Civil War South and fighting to claim their rights as U.S. citizens.

To Ada, this endless prairie is her family's first taste of true freedom. To Little Puma, a hot-headed Osage warrior, her family is just another wave of squatters stealing his people's land. Their meeting is a clash of steel and stubborn pride, sparking a bitter hatred that burns as hot as the summer sun.

But as the local town pushes the Osage to the brink of war, these sworn enemies are forced into a tense, secret alliance that ignites into a passionate, dangerous affair.

Bound by a shared struggle against a system built to destroy them both, they must choose between the loyalty they owe their people, and an explosive love that could burn the entire prairie to the ground.
