Claire Kraus wanted a normal life. She didn't get what she wanted. After leaving her abusive husband, she discovers something she never believed could happen: carrying his child.

She tries to keep some normalcy in her new home in Ashfield, Maine. She starts a new job, befriends her neighbor, and treats her pregnancy as if it were meant to happen. Yet, something feels off. The baby develops faster than normal. She has nightmares that make her afraid to sleep. She craves raw meat.
