"You can't say things like that," she whispered.
"Why not?"
"Because..." She trailed off.
"Because what?" I pulled back and looked into her eyes. They were dark, stormy, full of conflict.
"Because you want me to say them?"
"No-"
"Liar." I tilted her chin up. "You want me, Ella. I see it in your eyes. I feel it in the way you tremble when I touch you."
She shook her head. "You don't know what you're talking about."
"Don't I?" My hand slid down her neck, over her collarbone, to the curve of her breast. She gasped. "You're flushed. Your pupils are dilated. Your nipples are hard.Your heart is racing."
"You're-" She swallowed again. "You're impossible."
"I'm obsessed." The word came out raw, honest, unexpected. "I've been obsessed with you since the moment I saw you in that trailer, holding a wrench like you were ready to fight me."
"I was ready to fight you."
"And now?" I leaned in, my lips brushing against hers. "Are you still ready to fight me?"
She didn't answer.
So I kissed her.
They say monsters are born, not made. They're wrong. Monsters are carved slowly, painfully, one scream at a time. They are shaped in the dark, in the bloodsoaked corners of childhood, spaces where love should have been but wasn't.Dimitri Ivanov was not born a monster. He was made one.
And then she walked into his world,a girl with caramel skin, clutching a wrench like a shield. She was small,so impossibly small with big brown eyes behind glasses and a scent of vanilla that clung to his lungs like a curse.
This is a story about the girl who made a monster feel human again. And the monster who would burn the world for her.
She wasn't supposed to matter. She was the daughter of a man who had betrayed his mother,She was the enemy's child.
