At eighteen, my mother left her hometown for the city with nothing but an old bag and a dream of earning enough money to repay her parents. I don't know what happened that night. She never told me. All I know is that after that night, she had me. And from then on, my mother's life was no longer her own. I grew up in hardship, surrounded by unanswered questions and the fear that one day I might become the kind of man my mother had spent her entire life trying not to remember. I used to think I still had plenty of time to make it up to her. It wasn't until I was forty-five that I finally understood... Some people spend their entire lives waiting for us. But not everyone can wait until the day we finally become the person we should have been.
