Laura is a writer and published author who resides well within her comfort zone. When her editor recommends she write something "a little less realistic" than the cozy, contemporary stories she'd been writing, Laura is more than a little unsure about the idea, though she intends to give it her best shot, on a typewriter she recently purchased at a garage sale.

From heavy storms to a mysterious "haunting", Laura seems to be acquiring plenty of material for a brand-new story... But when a Naval ship catches up with the crew, the mild-mannered writer faces a desperate choice: does she give up the pirates and try her luck with the law-abiding crew that promises to bring her back to some semblance of civilization? Or does compliance mean certain death for the ones who had shown her so much acceptance?
