Broken Promises
Everyone thought Isaiah and Zuri had the perfect relationship.
From the outside, they looked unbreakable. The kind of couple people admired, envied, and swore would last forever. Isaiah was charming when people were watching, always making Zuri laugh, always keeping an arm around her waist. But behind closed doors, he was someone else entirely.
What started as controlling behavior slowly turned into something darker. Angry words became threats, and threats became bruises hidden beneath long sleeves and fake smiles. Time after time, Isaiah promised it would never happen again. Time after time, Zuri believed him.
The worst part wasn't that it happened.
It was that it happened right under everyone's noses.
Family gatherings. Cookouts. Birthday parties. There were countless nights when Isaiah would pull Zuri into another room after an argument, only for muffled yelling, crashing sounds, or her quiet cries to be heard through the walls. Everyone heard something, but nobody wanted to assume the worst. Nobody wanted to believe Isaiah was capable of hurting the woman he claimed to love.
So they stayed silent.
And Zuri suffered in silence with them.
As the cycle of abuse grows more dangerous, Zuri finds herself trapped between the man she fell in love with and the monster he becomes when no one is looking. With every broken promise, every apology, and every second chance, she must decide whether love is worth losing herself-or if walking away is the only way to survive.
Because sometimes the most painful wounds are the ones nobody wants to see.
