Echoes of the Destiny

In the salt-worn streets of Cape Coast, two eight-year-old girls join hands at a schoolyard gate, one of them certain that God Himself arranged the meeting. Rachel does not hear the voice her new friend Ruth hears so easily, and that quiet, private ache, the fear of being the one left out of something sacred, will follow her for the next twenty years.

What begins as an ordinary childhood friendship becomes the axis on which Rachel's whole life turns. Through a frightened night with an uncle who should never have been feared, through a father's canoe that does not come home on time, through the slow, uneven work of growing up in a house that believes, without embarrassment, that God still speaks to ordinary people, Ruth becomes the steadiness Rachel borrows until she can find her own.
