Sixteen-year-old River has learned how to survive without depending on anyone. Homeless and hiding in an abandoned warehouse, he measures his days in free meals, safe places to rest, and the few belongings he can carry in his worn backpack. When he begins attending The Crossroads, a youth group run by Grace River Church, he meets Eli Bennett, the privileged son of a wealthy pastor. Eli's life appears perfect from the outside, but every part of his future has been carefully planned by his controlling father, from his meals and education to the sports he is expected to play. As River and Eli grow closer, Eli discovers the truth about River's situation and refuses to look away. Helping River means defying everything Eli has been taught about obedience, appearances, and success. When his father forbids their friendship, Eli begins a quiet rebellion that places his grades, privileges, and carefully designed future at risk. His resistance eventually forces his father to listen, giving River the chance to leave the streets behind and enter a world of safety, comfort, and abundance he is afraid to trust. As River struggles to believe that kindness can last and Eli begins making choices for himself, their friendship deepens into something neither of them expected-something powerful enough to change both of their lives..
