The Night of Porfiry

A haunting, evocative vignette of aristocratic decadence and hermetic isolation at the twilight of an era. The story follows the last remaining daughter of a thousand-year-old lineage-a young girl possessed of a chilling, preternatural gravity and a mind beautifully closed to the vulgarity of the modern world. Within her ancient villa, an autistic, sacred silence reigns, guarded fiercely by those who serve her every unspoken whim. But as the raucous clamor of newly built hotels begins to encroach upon her sanctuary, the energy of the land is broken. In a grand, silent migration of the soul, she and her retinue forsake their ancestral home. With her grand piano hoisted into the cavernous iron of a Ford-T34-the sacred instrument with which she heals herself of her own overwhelming existence-she departs. Their destination is a long-forgotten domain shrouded in the scent of pine, a place of absolute peace nestled in the immediate, somber shadow of a necropolis that mirrors the eternal stillness of Père-Lachaise.
