At the West Base, Ray watches Doctor Tao struggle with the physical toll of aging, sparking a deep and suffocating wave of anxiety within him. Having been rescued from a cold, nameless past by the old scientist, Ray resists Tao's gentle acceptance of his own mortality and angrily demands he stop pushing himself. Unable to cope with the reality of losing his father figure, Ray lashes out in fear and frustration. When an emergency distress call arrives from Commander Chen, Ray uses the disruption to retreat, leaving Dr. Tao behind to face the mission alone.
