Twenty-three-year-old Kennedy García moved halfway across the world from Spain to start over. Fresh out of university with a degree in Primary Education and a passion for supporting children with additional needs, she accepts a job at the small elementary school in the quiet ranching town of Silver Creek, Wyoming. Far from home, she's determined to prove herself, even if she still misses the warmth of her family and occasionally slips back into Spanish when she's overwhelmed.

On her first day, she meets Lawson Wilder, an energetic five-year-old in her Reception class who's endlessly curious, fiercely protective of his little sister, and always talking about life on his father's cattle ranch. Lawson quickly becomes one of Kennedy's favourite pupils, charming her with stories about horses, rodeos, and helping his dad feed the cattle before school.

She also meets Josie Wilder, Lawson's three-year-old sister. Josie attends the school's early years SEND provision, where Kennedy is part of the team supporting her. Josie is autistic and communicates in her own way, often preferring routines and familiar faces. She rarely warms to new people-but for reasons no one can explain, she forms an immediate bond with Kennedy. Soon, Josie refuses to start her day without a hug from "Miss Kenny," and Kennedy becomes one of the few adults who can calm her during moments of overwhelm.

Their father, Cade Wilder, has spent the last three years raising his children alone after their mother walked out, leaving without looking back. Since then, his world has revolved around the ranch, his weekend team roping competitions, and giving Lawson and Josie the stable childhood they deserve. Love stopped being a priority a long time ago.

What starts as professional conversations over coffee at the kitchen table slowly turns into lingering evenings on the porch, shared dinners after long days, and easy laughter neither of them realised they'd been missing.
