Lost Emotions

I am Apathis. I do not know my age: the number refuses to stay in my memory, and there is little meaning in it anyway. Heaven and the abyss once converged, and the world received me - the son of a fallen one and a demoness. Heaven turned away; the abyss remained silent. What remained was the curse: immortality and a silence within where emotions do not dwell.
People call me a wonder or a monster; they envy the former and fear the latter - both reactions are dangerous.
By the lunar lake, I met Eylona. She looks straight ahead and does not hide her hands. Her voice stirs the still water inside me, like a pebble cast into a pond. This feeling is alien to me, and yet the fire burns warmer beside her than it ought to.
But the world loves order, and in that order the "other" is superfluous. The whisper of legends quickly becomes a price tag; hunters of eternal life call me prey, keepers of the old tales call me a mistake.
The question is simple: can one living heart ignite a flame where stone has long lain? If so, I will learn the price. If not, I will hear the verdict in silence.
