This story follows 14-year-old Shovi, who grows cold and disrespectful after his family falls apart. He insists he will only respect those who "deserve it," ignoring his grandmother's lessons about Filipino values of respect and kindness. When he gets hurt and lost in the rain, the very stranger he once snubbed helps him-revealing she is Aling Nana, an old family friend who once saved them from hunger. Shovi learns that respect is not earned-it is given freely, because everyone deserves kindness.
