Arabella has known Max Hatter since they were kids because her mom knew his grandpa although they grew up to be best friends until the first semester in Auradon. She did write him letters but never sent them out.

Arabella's mother and father died and she has never had a normal life she's always in a big mansion by herself and it gets really lonely. So imagine her surprise when her best friend Max Hatter comes to Auradon and doesn't want to talk to her. He has a new group of friends Hazel Hook who hates Arabella with every inch of her life. Smees twins who actually think Arabella is too misunderstood. Felix Faclier who doesn't care as long as his boy, Max is good with the person.

Now Max on the other hand nothing ever came easy in his life like ever. He always gets blamed for the things that his dad does and he does miss Arabella. He's just scared that she doesn't miss him.

But they both realized that Red and Chloe didn't time travel. Arabella's parents would still be alive and Max's dad would never be evil. So for revenge, they tried to find the pocket watch that Maddox was trying to find.

But in the end both of them had a change of heart because they realized if they do it they're messing with time again and something else is going to go wrong.

So in the end they become a couple and they learn to grow with each other. Oh and Max loves to braid Arabella's hair.
