Every December 31st, Sabine leaves before midnight - and every year, she comes back and knocks. Neither of them names it. Neither of them has to.

Then Reykjavík happens, and for eight seconds on an ice-cold rooftop, Sabine Callas - trained to lose soldiers and never blink - breaks formation for one man. She doesn't know what to call the thing that made her do it. She only knows she's terrified of it.

So she leaves. Not for a night this time. For good.

A year and more later, Chamber is still standing at a dark window on New Year's Eve, waiting for a knock that isn't coming. And Sabine is two streets away, finally done running from a variable she's spent her whole career refusing to name.
