Deeply metaphorical, this story collection explores the immutability of human nature. Through cross-section story pairs, it draws parallels between snapshots of the Past and Present ("Cavemen" section) and of the Future ("Androids" section). Sous Le Toit D'un gangster
Rachid Gueye de son vrai nom Hassan Tidiane Ba. À 8 ans, ses parents sont assassinés. Sa tante l'accueille, mais son mari le chasse trois jours après. Rachid va alors à l'orphelinat. Le lendemain, un homme d'affaires riche nommé Bachir Gueye l'adopte. Il lui donne son nom et change son prénom. Rachid devient le grand frère d'Issa et Sofia, les enfants de Bachir. 30 ans plus tard, Rachid est devenu un homme riche, puissant, strict et arrogant. Sa famille gère des entreprises légales, mais aussi la plus grande mafia sénégalaise. Rachid n'a jamais été amoureux. Pour lui, les femmes servent juste pour le plaisir et il n'en veut pas dans sa vie. Dans un monde parallèle, vit une villageoise de 19 ans nommée Zahra Sarr. Elle a perdu sa mère. C'est un garçon manqué, insolent et bagarreuse . Elle porte des vêtements trop grands et n'a peur de personne. À cause de son comportement, les villageois se plaignent souvent d'elle. Son père, Massamba, la bat et la maltraite à chaque fois. Zahra supporte tout par amour pour sa tante et son petit frère malade, Abdourakhmane. Un jour, tout bascule. Son meilleur ami, dont elle est amoureuse, se fiance avec une autre fille. En plus, Zahra découvre un lourd secret sur elle-même. Elle décide alors de quitter le village pour aller en ville chez son oncle. Son but est de continuer ses études et de mener l'enquête pour découvrir la vérité. Zahra et Rachid sont obligés de vivre ensemble, car Zahra est la nièce de Bachir Gueye. Dès son arrivée, la maison devient un terrain d'affrontement psychologique entre Rachid et Zahra. Tous les deux ont des blessures du passé et mènent chacun une enquête de leur côté. Rachid cherche le meurtrier de ses parents pour se venger. Zahra, elle, cherche à découvrir l'identité de son vrai père. Dans la famille Gueye, tout le monde est un peu fou et de très lourds secrets vont bientôt éclater.

Excerpt I got a peace offering. And Ice cream. The message popped up again. His Bhaiyu was making it hard to ignore. Darwaza khol, yaar. Mogambo uth jayenge. Ansh glared at the French windows. Even desperate his Bhaiyu would not quit the name calling. Shall I leave? Ansh did not respond. Okay! Leaving the ice-cream outside. Take it before it melts. Ansh did not respond, but his heart skipped a beat. He wanted to meet his Bhaiyu. He was even a little desperate, but he did not wish to give in so soon. So, he counted until 100 and then slowly made his way outside. Iris hopped down from the bed and followed behind him. Ansh opened the doors with a big heart only to find a basket filled with dumb yellow smile squishes and a big tub of ice-cream in between. A few CD's were tucked into the basket almost as an afterthought. The game CD's that Ansh wanted. Ansh glared at the basket. "Do minute nahi rukh saktey they kya?" He muttered under his breath. "You made me wait 17 minutes, kidoo" A voice whispered in his ears. Ansh almost screamed but Nirbhay's palm closed around his mouth before any sound could slip. Ansh's heart thudded in his chest. His Bahiyu had almost given him a heart attack. Nirabhay grabbed the basket and slipped inside with Ansh, and shut the door behind him.Complete
