The air beneath Paris had a way of stealing every sound.

It swallowed footsteps, laughter, and even courage.

For Maddy and Molly, however, fear had never been enough to stop them. They had spent years watching every upload from Sam and Colby, laughing at their jokes, holding their breath during investigations, and imagining what it would be like to stand beside them one day.

They knew their personalities.

They knew their stories.

They knew the way they smiled at the camera, the way they teased each other, and the confidence they carried into every investigation.

Or at least...

They thought they did.

Because watching someone through a screen was easy.

Standing only a few feet away from them was something completely different.

The kind of different that made your heart race for reasons that had nothing to do with ghosts.

The kind of different that made you question whether the fear you felt came from what was hiding in the darkness...

Or from the people standing beside you.

They never actually believed it would happen.
