Katherine 'Kate' Bennett has always been too wild for the life her mother expects her to lead. Sent away from Wisconsin to live with her aunt and uncle in Independence, Kansas, Kate finds herself surrounded by unfamiliar land, endless chores, and rules she has no intention of following.

Kate struggles to find her place in the Ingalls household, often clashing with her Aunt Caroline and cousin Mary, but finds comfort with her fatherly Uncle Charles, and friendship with her adventurous young cousin Laura.

But beyond the safety of the Ingalls home is a world Kate knows only through the chilling stories others have told her. When she crosses paths with Little Puma, a young Osage man who challenges everything she thought she knew, Kate begins to discover that the prairie holds more than just danger and hardship.

As two very different worlds collide, Kate must learn what it truly means to belong, and whether the girl who was once considered too much for everyone else might finally find a place where she is exactly enough.
