When the Reed family moves to Nockfell, Ophelia wants only one thing: to disappear.

She keeps her head down, avoids attention, and tries not to think about the life they left behind. The Reeds come from generations of psychics and witches. Ophelia thinks it is all bullshit, even if she has spent years pretending not to notice the things she can't explain.

She only knows that sometimes, seeing the unseen isn't all it's hyped up to be.

Then she meets Sal Fisher.

Behind his prosthetic face is someone who understands what it means to be stared at, misunderstood, and haunted by things no one else believes are real. As Sal and his friends uncover the darkness buried beneath Nockfell, Ophelia begins noticing things she has spent years trying to ignore.

The closer Sal gets to her, the harder Ophelia tries to pull away. After all.. The Reed family didn't leave their old life behind as cleanly as they pretend. Just ask the skeletons in the closet.
