Hockey has always been loud. Skates carving into fresh ice. Pucks slamming against the boards. Crowds cheering until their voices disappear. It's a world fueled by competition, rivalries, and victory.
I never belonged in that world. I preferred the quiet. A sharpened pencil. A blank page. Poetry scribbled in the margins of my notebooks.
While everyone else watched the score, I watched people. I noticed the smiles they forced. The words they never said. The loneliness hidden behind applause. I thought I knew exactly where my story was going. I had a boyfriend. A future. A life that looked perfect from the outside. Then one broken ice rink changed everything. Suddenly our biggest rivals were sharing the same arena.

New faces. New friendships. And one infuriatingly charming hockey player with a crooked smile who kept looking at me like he could see every chapter I was trying so hard to hide. His name was John Logan. And neither of us knew that the hardest game we'd ever play had nothing to do with hockey.
