"Please don't, Rio," I pleaded.
Rio didn't spare me a glance, bringing the hammer down once more against the hand of the man who had assaulted me.
My horrified scream and Adrian's agonised one sounded in unison. This time Rio got his fingers, some of which were already sticking up unnaturally.
I turned my head to the side. I didn't want to watch this.
At my movement, Rio's attention shifted to me.
He tutted. "Oh no, Mia. That won't do."
He turned my head back to the center of the room with the same hammer he was using to destroy Adrian's hand. The cold metal was gentle against my cheek, but I was trembling from the knowledge of the agony it had caused.
"You tried to run away, and he tried to rape you. Actions have consequences, for both of you."
Rio walked back over to where a gagged and restrained Adrian was still offering muffled pleas.
"Now you're going to watch the consequences," Rio promised darkly.
