Anastasia Black has never wanted to leave La Push.

She grows up between the forest and the sea, surrounded by familiar faces, family bonfires, old stories, and a community where everyone knows everyone. While her twin brother Jacob is always getting into trouble, Anna is more comfortable with a book in her hands, a notebook full of plants at her side, and thunder rolling over the Pacific.

For years, life is simple.

Until the Cullens return to Forks.

At first, the changes are small.

Boys start disappearing from school. Friends become distant. Tempers flare without warning. There are whispers among the elders, strange stories resurfacing, and an uneasy feeling settling over La Push that Anna cannot quite put into words.

Then Jacob starts changing too.

Suddenly, the people Anna has grown up with are keeping secrets.

The same boys she has known since childhood are disappearing into the forest, returning different, and refusing to tell her why. Her closest friendships begin to fracture as everyone seems to know something she doesn't.

And somewhere beyond the trees, something old is waking up.

As Bella Swan's return to Forks brings vampires back into the orbit of the Quileute community, the fragile boundary between legend and reality begins to collapse.

Anna has spent her entire life listening to stories about the things that once protected their people.

She never imagined she would live through one.

Some storms announce themselves with thunder.

Others begin with a whisper.

And this one has already begun to gather.
