In the height of the prohibition era, Bonnie Jean Davis works as a private investigator in New York City. On the other hand, Josephine Mae Johnson works as a jazz club singer at a club, The Bee's Knees.

The two come from different backgrounds and share completely different opinions on many things, clean money being one of them. Bonnie finds Josephine hardworking but slightly too careless, and Josephine finds Bonnie to be uptight yet weirdly comforting, comforting in a way she's never had before.

It's the roaring twenties, and everything and anything could happen.
