The stars changed without warning.

One moment, the Bubble was surrounded by the galaxy its people had always known. The next, its borders opened onto a civilization that should not exist-a galaxy ruled by hyperspace lanes, ancient orders, planetary governments, vast fleets, and wars fought on a scale neither side is prepared to understand.

To the Galactic Republic, the newcomers are human, yet their ships violate almost every assumption on which galactic travel and military power have been built. They cross systems without hyperlanes. They draw fuel from stars. Independent pilots command vessels with capabilities normally reserved for navies.

To the people of the Bubble, the Republic is just as unsettling: a civilization capable of moving armies between worlds, manufacturing warships by the thousands, and treating entire star systems as pieces of a political struggle already centuries old.

First contact does not produce understanding.

It produces questions.

Then fear.

Then opportunity.

As commanders, soldiers, smugglers, engineers, politicians, explorers, and ordinary people begin crossing the new frontier, technology changes hands, alliances form where none should exist, enemies learn from one another, and the difference between foreigner and neighbor becomes harder to define.

And somewhere beyond the arguments of human civilizations, Witchspace still belongs to something else.
