Sa mundo ng Ravaryn at Kestramore, dalawang haring nagpatayan dahil sa poot ang nag-iwan ng pamana sa kanilang mga anak-mga prinsipe na may dalang kapangyarihan ng hangin, lupa, tubig, at apoy. Kasama sa kanilang kapalaran ang Prinsipe ng Firesse-isang kahariang nabura sa mapa ng mundo. Ulila at walang nasasakupan, ngunit pinili ng Bathala upang maging ikaapat na haligi ng kapalaran. Ngunit sa likod ng kanilang lakas, nakatali ang isang sumpa. Kapag ang kanilang galit ay umapaw, lilitaw ang wangis ng halimaw-isang nakakatakot na anyo na maaaring pumatay ng inosente. Isang sumpa na maaari ring maging biyaya: dahil sa oras na makita sila sa anyong ito, kapalaran na ng kanilang kalaban ang kamatayan. Ngayon, ang apat na babae ay naging bahagi ng kwento ng mga prinsipe. Ang akala nila'y sila ang sumusulat ng kanilang kapalaran sa loob ng libro-ngunit ang totoo, sila mismo ang isinulat. At sa dulo ng lahat... kailangan nilang pumili: Babalik ba sila sa sariling mundo? O haharapin nila ang katotohanang maaaring sila ang susi upang iligtas-o tuluyang wasakin-ang mundong ginising nila?

Si Grakx ang pangatlong gabay ni Fin, siya yung nagturo kay Fin paano lumaban. Higit labing pitong taon siya nakatulog sa ilalim ng kahariang Aethelgard dahil sa pagtakas niya sa mag-ina na si Moali, ang reyna ng Astia. Si Anastasia naman ang pang-apat na gabay, at siya din ang anak ni Zaram..
