Beyond the Surface

Amy Carter has spent most of her life trying not to be noticed.

Painfully shy and more comfortable blending into the background, she's used to keeping her head down--- especially at school, where certain guys seem to find entertainment in making her their favorite target.

Thankfully, there's one person who never lets them get away with it.

Kyle has known Amy for years. She's his best friend's little sister, which means looking out for her comes with the territory. Walking her to class, standing up for her, making sure no one messes with her---it's nothing more than him being a good friend.

Until it is.

Somewhere between her quiet laughs, nervous smiles, and the parts of herself she only seems comfortable showing him, Kyle starts seeing Amy differently.

But when Amy finally begins stepping outside of her shell, Kyle realizes he isn't the only one capable of seeing beyond her quiet exterior.

And watching someone else get closer to her is a lot harder than staying away was supposed to be.

Kyle knows falling for Amy could cost him his best friend.

Amy knows giving him her heart could leave her more broken than before.

But the closer they become, the harder it is to pretend there isn't something between them.

Because sometimes, you have to look beyond the surface to find exactly what you've been searching for.
