Princess Hall has always been good at keeping people organized.

At twenty-two, fresh out of USC and determined to build a career without relying on her father's name, she takes a job in entertainment administration-a job that sounds considerably more impressive until she has to explain that she's the assistant to the assistant of Michael Jackson's personal assistant.

It's July 1987.

The release of Bad is weeks away. Preparations for Michael Jackson's first solo world tour are intensifying, and Princess spends most of her days buried beneath telephone messages, travel arrangements, revised itineraries, and other people's mistakes.

Then she catches one nobody else does.

A wrong departure time.

A corrected schedule.

Twenty copies.

Nothing extraordinary.

Except someone else takes credit for fixing it.

And when the paperwork is examined, every note, telephone call, and confirmation leads back to one name:

Princess Hall.

For the first time, Michael Jackson notices her.

It should've ended there.

Instead, he remembers her.

Then he starts asking for her.

Then somewhere between Los Angeles and Tokyo, professional familiarity becomes friendship-and friendship begins drifting toward something neither of them planned for.
