Following the total destruction of the planets Leya and Eritreya, the transport ship Merlan drifts toward Earth with 1,248 survivors. Captain Poris faces a grim reality: their oxygen is running out. To save his people, he forms a desperate alliance with his old friend Bukis, captain of the Leyan ship Berg. In a symbolic act of letting go, Poris destroys the Merlan - the last piece of Eritreya - and joins his people with the new alliance.
The fleet reaches Odnaton, an ancient station hiding a secret. Inside, old hatred begins to rise again, while a new generation emerges between the two dying races.
