Layla has always had strange dreams.
At least, that's what she tells herself.
She's seventeen, struggling to keep her family afloat, working as much as she can, and trying to make it through her final year of high school. The last thing she needs is a mystery she can't explain.
But lately, her dreams have changed.
There's always a man.
She doesn't know his name, yet being near him feels strangely comforting. Familiar. Like returning somewhere she's been before.
Then she starts dreaming about dying.
In one dream, she hears him begging someone-or something-not to take her.
"Please. Not Marie."
Layla has no idea who Marie is.
She also has no idea why the name feels like it belongs to her.
When a history project brings Layla and her best friend, Britt, to the mysterious Hickory Mansion, the strange dreams begin following her into the waking world. She knows things she shouldn't know. Finds things she shouldn't be able to find.
And then she sees him.
The man from her dreams.
Only this time, he's real.
Soon, Layla begins to wonder if her dreams are dreams at all.
Because someone remembers a life she doesn't.
Someone knows a name she has never been called.
And someone has been waiting a very long time to find her again.
