She possesses the same kekkei genkai as Deidara of the Akatsuki, two mouths on her hands, allowing her to shape explosive clay. She is not related to Deidara's family. She has short, blonde hair, about shoulder-length, with bangs like Deidara's, but on one side over her eye. She is a Konoha ninja, a Jonin, often traveling with Team 7 or 10. She has a rather cheerful disposition and wears a classic Jonin outfit, including a black cloak, almost never with her hood up. She shares Deidara's attitude towards art (art is ephemeral and explosive). Because of her hair, she is sometimes mistaken for a boy-just as Deidara is sometimes mistaken for a woman. They are both about the same age, she perhaps a year younger.
