Waiting for excitement is a hard thing to do. Especially when you're Noa King, the girl who has a so-called "guy's name" and is rumored to "summon spirits". Having an intimidating demeanor and pale skin doesn't help much either. And then there's Charlie, the delinquent who's actually pretty smart, who is forced to join his ELA teacher's club--the book club. It's no ordinary club, because there's Noa . . . and there's no reading whatsoever yet. When what seems to be "certain death" (one of Noa's crazy exaggerations) upon this pair takes action, Noa is forced to undergo many measures and even discover something she never expected to even encounter. Love. So who knows what's in store for these two? Oh, wait. I do.

When Annika King joked about summoning a boyfriend who wouldn't cheat, she didn't expect him to actually show up-dripping shadows, smelling like smoke, and calling her by name. Kael isn't human. He isn't safe. And according to him, she bound him years ago with a contract she doesn't remember signing. Now, he's here to collect. But the summoning wasn't supposed to happen yet, and Hell wants him back. If they can't claim Kael, they'll take her instead. Her only options? Break the bond and forget him forever... ...or keep him, and burn with him. A dangerous game of obsession, shadows, and stolen hearts begins-because Kael isn't here just to belong to her. He's here to make her his.
