Westeros is a land of kings, queens, knights, dragons, and ancient houses.

But four-year-old Mara knows very little about any of them.

She is simply the daughter of a blacksmith.

Her world is the warmth of the forge, the ringing of her father's hammer, the smell of fresh bread from her mother's kitchen, muddy streets, noisy markets, horses in the stable, and the occasional knight who comes to have a sword repaired.

Mara is young enough to see the world differently from everyone around her. She doesn't understand why grown men whisper when the king's messengers arrive. She doesn't understand why some people bow while others refuse. She doesn't understand why people fear dragons, or why nobles seem to think their problems are more important than everyone else's.

But she notices.

She remembers.

And she asks questions.

Through Mara's eyes, the great events of Westeros become something different. Wars are no longer merely battles between armies-they are empty places at the forge when soldiers don't return. Royal decrees become changes in the price of food. Noble rivalries become frightened whispers overheard by children. Victories mean crowded streets and celebrations, while defeats mean mothers waiting for sons who may never come home.

As Mara grows older, the world around her changes.

Kings will rise and fall.

Great houses will make alliances and destroy them.

Dragons will become stories-or return to the skies.

And through it all, Mara will grow from a little girl sitting beside her father's forge into a young woman who understands something the powerful often forget:
