Slow Burn
Every hundred years, the curse returns. Every night, the Werewolf must kill. During the day, they gather to decide who they believe is responsible. Argue, accuse, defend, and even condemn an innocent person to death. The only way to survive is to discover the truth before it discovers you. As the Seer, Courtney can secretly learn one role every night. A gift that could save her town. Arasha has always been good at hiding things. She has to be. The curse has given her the role of Werewolf, and every night she is forced to choose someone she knows to die. No way to refuse. No way to pass the curse. No way to save her friends. As the curse continues, the town begins to unravel. Friends begin keeping secrets. Conversations carry accusations. Every night leaves another empty place. But somehow, Courtney and Arasha become closer. They talk when everyone else is asleep, trade theories, confess fears they have never said aloud. They become each other's safest place in a town where no one is supposed to feel safe. Courtney believes she has finally found someone she can trust completely. Arasha knows she has found the one person she can never afford to lose. Neither tells the other the truth. And as their friendship begins to blur into something deeper, the lies become harder to live with. Neither knows they're looking for each other. Courtney's gift brings her closer to the truth, but every answer raises another question. Arasha begins to wonder how long she can keep pretending. She can endure being hated. Being hunted. Being the monster. What she cannot endure is the thought of Courtney hating her. Courtney spends her nights searching for the monster among the people she loves. She never considers that the person she is trying hardest to protect may be the very person she has been searching for. Because sometimes the cruelest part of a curse isn't the killing... It's making you fall in love with the person you were never meant to save.

For years, Draco Malfoy and Veda Hawthorne have been compared to one another. Same blood status. Same House. Same arrogance. Same talent for making enemies. Draco is used to being the one people are intimidated by. Veda has never been one of them. If anything, she seems to enjoy knocking him down a peg, which only makes him more determined not to let her get the better of him. By fourth year, their rivalry is practically Hogwarts folklore. But when Draco begins noticing the cracks beneath Veda's carefully maintained reputation, the line between knowing someone and understanding them starts to blur. Neither of them is particularly happy about it.
