"Were you ever gonna tell me?" MJ murmured, pained by the sudden wave of realization.

The question was barely louder than a whisper, but it cut through me with more force than any punch I'd ever taken.

I had imagined this moment a thousand times. In every version, she remembered. She laughed at something only we would understand, called me an idiot for waiting so long, and somehow found her way back to me.

I had never imagined standing in front of the girl I loved while she looked at me like I was a stranger carrying the memories of someone she'd lost.

I couldn't bring myself to lie to her yet again, so my silence spoke for me.

"Right" She scoffed in exasperation, "so you were just gonna make that decision for me" she supplied in disbelief.

I watched the realization settle over her-the truth of every missing piece, every instinct she couldn't explain, every empty space where a memory of us should have been.

She wasn't angry because she hated me.

She was angry because I had loved her enough to choose for her.
