In the summer of '96, Los Angeles was divided into two worlds: the untouchable Hollywood elite and the gritty, unstoppable force of West Coast hip-hop. I was just a 22 year old broke actress caught in the middle, paying my rent by standing in the background of Death Row music videos.

I wasn't looking for love, and I definitely wasn't looking for the most controversial man in America.

All I wanted was to nail my audition for a gritty indie film. I never expected Tupac Shakur to step out of the chaos of a soundstage to help me run them.

To the rest of the world, he was "Thug Life" personified. But the man who challenged my acting, who perfectly understood the heavy, cynical weight of the first responder role I was trying to embody, was brilliant, raw, and desperate for an escape from the suffocating box the media put him in.

What started as an unexpected connection turns into a hidden sanctuary.

But as my acting career finally starts to take off, the real-life danger surrounding his world reaches a boiling point. Now, we have to decide if what we found in the shadows of that soundstage was just a temporary escape, or if we are strong enough to rewrite the tragic ending everyone else is expecting.
