It's a Normal Story

I gave this story the title it has because this plot and trope, essentially, is very common.
And, like bread and butter, sometimes that's what you need.

Phillis Woodroe has the perfect boyfriend, Peter, she can't truly love.
She has a co-worker, Kathy, who she can't stand--half the time.
She teeters, constantly, between versions of herself that exist only for three reasons: she likes girls and hasn't told but one person. Secondly, she's ashamed because of this. Thirdly, this makes the foundation of her life a living lie.
To make matters worse, someone new comes along, and then Kathy doesn't matter.
Peter becomes less of an obligation and begins to seem more like an option, and hell, this might mean the world is ending.
Phillis's internal Armageddon approaches.
There's a 99% chance it affects everyone else too.
