Night City has taken everything from Mateo Martinez.

His mother. His brother. The future they were supposed to share.

Now the last surviving member of the Martinez family, Mateo works as a mercenary, taking any gig dangerous enough to make him feel something and any target bloody enough to make him forget. He has no interest in becoming a legend.

Most nights, he does not care whether he lives long enough to be remembered.

Then he meets Jackie Welles.

A loud, ambitious merc from Heywood with a heart far too good for Night City, Jackie recognises Mateo for what he truly is: not fearless, but drowning.

Jackie decides Mateo is worth saving. Whether Mateo likes it or not, he vows to drag him back into the light-even if it is the last thing he ever does.

But Mateo has already buried one brother who made him a promise.

As he and Jackie carve a path towards the Afterlife and the major leagues, Mateo must decide whether the brother he has found is worth living for-or whether Night City will break Jackie's promise as well.

Then a nomad named V rolls out of the Badlands with hot cargo, a battered car and nothing left tying her to her old life.

What begins as one smuggling job will bind the three of them together and give Mateo something he thought Night City had killed for good:

A reason to live.

But in Night City, hope is the most dangerous thing anyone can carry.
