Star Trek Gagarin: First Command

The stars were supposed to be waiting for them. Instead, they found a galaxy at war.

At twenty-five years old, Andre M. Calzado has achieved what most Starfleet officers spend a lifetime pursuing: command of his own starship. The newly commissioned U.S.S. Gagarin and her young crew set out carrying all the optimism of Starfleet with them. For Calzado, it is the beginning of the life he has always imagined-exploring strange new worlds, making first contact with unknown civilizations, and earning his place among the captains who came before him.

But this is not the peaceful Federation of another generation.

War with the Klingon Empire threatens the frontier. The shattered Romulan Star Empire struggles over its future. Raiders prey upon isolated colonies and defenseless ships. Faced with impossible decisions, devastating losses and mysteries reaching across centuries, Calzado must learn that commanding a starship requires far more than sitting in the captain's chair. Every order carries consequences. Every life aboard his ship is now his responsibility.

And some decisions will follow him long after the mission is over.
