Be careful of Strangers

Emotion is a strange thing.

Growing up, my grandpa always told my sisters and me never to let our negative emotions get the best of us. Because deep emotions bring choices, and choices bring consequences.

But when you feel like your life is being torn to shreds, you can't always control the anger that takes hold of you.

And then I saw him.

A stranger sitting beside the water, listening as though he'd been waiting for me to speak.

There was something about him I couldn't explain. Something that felt wrong, yet strangely familiar.

Curiosity got the best of me. I spoke. He listened. And before I left, I said things I never thought would matter.

I didn't know that some words carry more power than others.

I didn't know that some promises don't need to be spoken aloud.

And I certainly didn't know that my grandmother's warning wasn't just an old superstition.

Be careful of strangers.
