Guilty Mind (Mens Rea)

She has never lost a case.

Brilliant, relentless, and almost frighteningly good at finding weaknesses in the prosecution's arguments, she has built her reputation on winning cases other attorneys wouldn't touch.

Then he walks into her law firm.

He's a powerful mafia man accused of a murder he claims he didn't commit. She immediately refuses to represent him. She knows who he is, she knows what kind of organization he runs, and she wants absolutely nothing to do with him.

But he doesn't ask.

He demands.

If she refuses the case, he makes it clear that her position at the firm-and possibly the firm itself-will suffer the consequences.

Her boss gives her no choice.

Now she has to defend the man she despises.

And she isn't defending him because she believes he's innocent. She knows he's a criminal. She knows he's done terrible things. But that's not what this trial is about.

The prosecution has to prove that he committed this murder beyond a reasonable doubt.

And she intends to make them do exactly that.

At first, she expects to find enough evidence to convince herself that he's guilty.

Instead, she finds holes.

The timeline doesn't work. The witnesses aren't as reliable as they seem. The evidence doesn't establish what the prosecution claims it does.

And slowly, unwillingly, she realizes something that makes her furious:

Her client may be guilty of countless crimes-but he didn't commit this one.

Now the lawyer who has never lost a case has to use every ounce of her intelligence to get a mafia man acquitted.

But there's one problem.

The more she learns about the case, the more she realizes that someone powerful wanted him convicted.
